Mighty Mud Mania in Scottsdale began in 1976 with a couple of hundred kids. It is a highly anticipated event each year, and, naturally, has grown in popularity.

What is Mighty Mud Mania?

It all happens at Chaparral Park, 5401 N. Hayden Road in Scottsdale. From the Pima Freeway, Loop 101 exit at Chaparral and drive west toward Hayden Road. The park entrance is on the north side of Chaparral. Here's a map.How do I get tickets for Mighty Mud Mania and how much are they?
There is no charge for children (1-17 years old) to participate.New in 2013: The Extreme Mud Course, recommended for ages 13 and older. There is a $10 course fee required for participants 18 and older. The fee supports Scottsdale youth programs.
What should people wear?
All participants must wear shoes that either tie or close with velcro with closed toes. No sandals, Crocs, slip-on water shoes. Leave the expensive athletic shoes at home -- they'll never be the same. Assume you will be throwing them away. Your local discount or dollar store may have sneakers that would work. Wear old clothing.How do the kids clean up?
Don't worry. Children will be washed off.What else should I know about Mighty Mud Mania?
Every child is required to have a permission slip. You can find it online and print it.There is a mud obstacle course, a mini-mud obstacle course (1-6 year olds), three mud pits (ages 6 and under, ages 7-12, 13 and older) in which kids can just play, a water play area for kids under 7 years old, and an area for building sandcastles. Mudville Town is for the toddlers.
The pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (bring a clean swimsuit, $1 admission).
There are no prizes or awards for the mud obstacle course races. They are just for fun. There are several heats, with children grouped by age. Because so many kids attend, children may go through the obstacle course only once to let everyone have an opportunity to experience it.
Drinking water and some areas for shade will be provided. Vendors, information booths about recycling and food concessions will also be at the park.
Finally, be aware that this is a well-attended event. There will be lines. If participants are patient and courteous, everyone can have a great time.
