7 Tips Before You Go to Phoenix Cooks!
- You'll see all kinds of attire at Phoenix Cooks! -- everything from shorts and sneakers to little black dresses. Nice jeans or resort casual attire is prominent.
- This is not a cheap ticket and the event only lasts for about half a day. I recommend you come early and pace yourself. It may seem at times that lines are long for some samples, but I found that if you are patient and seek out the chefs that have plenty prepared you'll have no problem.
- I found some wines (not too many), some beers (not too many), a few tequilas and some water varieties. If there were soft drinks or coffees I missed them (2009).
- Make sure you explore the entire venue -- outside the main hall there were more chefs, autos on display, an ice sculptor, a fundraiser auction, seminars and additional vendor booths. Note: These may change from year to year.
- Many of the chefs were mingling during the event. It's a great opportunity to meet them, ask advice and try to wrangle a few culinary secrets out of them!
- There were a few children there, but generally I would not recommend that you bring the kids. There's no face painting or bouncy attractions here. There were some people with infants in strollers, but be aware that due to crowds those can be very difficult to maneuver around the main hall.
- Leave whatever you might think of carrying at home! If you don't need a purse or a camera, you'll find it much easier balancing your tray, wine glass, napkins and utensils. Inside the ballroom there are no areas where you can sit while you eat.
