Tips For Visiting Rawhide

What You Need To Know Before You Pack Up The Family and Head On Over

By , About.com Guide

If you've never been to Rawhide's western town before, here are a few things that you might want to know.

Tips for enjoying your visit to Rawhide

  • During the summer months, Rawhide is only open in the evenings.
  • No pets are allowed.
  • No guns are allowed.
  • No food or beverages are allowed to be brought into Rawhide.
  • Wear your comfortable walking shoes. Rawhide is a big place, and the streets are all dirt, so closed shoes might be preferable over sandals.
  • If your kids are young, bring a stroller.
  • Rawhide Steakhouse takes reservations. If you're brave, try the Rawhide Rattler or Rocky Mountain Oysters!
  • The Six Gun Theater (bleachers) and the Spirit of the West Theater (folding chairs) can both fill up, but all seats are good seats. Get the show schedule upon arriving and plan your time accordingly.
  • Shows last about 15 - 20 minutes.
  • Sundown cookouts include a haywagon ride, full western dinner, music, and entertainment. Perfect for a special occasion or just a family night out.
  • If you are looking for a large selection of cowboy hats and boots, or some unusual western-type gifts or clothing, Rawhide might be the place for you. Since there's no admission charge except on a very few special event days, you can visit Rawhide just to shop.
