The Scottish Highland Games and Celtic Gathering is an annual event. It used to be held in Mesa, Arizona and moved to Phoenix in 2008. Here are a few things you might want to keep in mind when attending the event.
Tips for Attending the Scottish Highland Games
- Wear comfortable shoes. There's a lot of ground to cover between events and activities. You might be walking on uneven surfaces at times.
- Pets on leashes are permitted.
- If you get there early for Pipe Bands and athletic events, dress in layers. It can be very cool in the mornings, even if it warms up later on.
- The nice people organizing this festival allow re-entry, so if you want to deposit extra jackets or sweaters or things that you've purchased in your car, you can do that and then return to enjoy more of the festival.
- You are welcome to bring blankets or folding chairs to enjoy athletic events and entertainment.
- If you are visiting from out-of-town the closest hotels are in central Phoenix. Arriving early or staying for a few days? Here are some other things that you can do in Phoenix.
- You can pick up a schedule of events at the gate of the Scottish Highland Games.
- The scheduling here is more of an art than a science. Times are approximate.
