Phoenix Movie Theaters

IMAX, Discount Movies, Drive-Ins, Dinner and a Movie, and More

By , About.com Guide

Last time I checked there were more than 250 movie screens in the greater Phoenix area. That means that wherever you are in the Valley of the Sun, you probably aren't more than 15 or 20 minutes away from a movie theater. Of course, depending on the hot new movie release of the week, 50 of those Phoenix movie theaters may be playing the same film!

Sometimes, always going to the closest movie theater isn't the point of the exercise. You might have a 20 theater megaplex nearby, but you'd rather see an art film today. Or maybe you haven't been to IMAX in a year or two. To find out what's playing in your neighborhood theater, it is handiest to use the geographic breakdown of theaters.

This Phoenix area movie theater listing is arranged by special interest. It just depends what you are looking for!

Discount Movie Theaters

These movie theaters aren't showing first run films, but they may not yet be out on DVD or video either. These tend to be older theaters, and may not have stadium-style seating. Discount movie theaters in the Phoenix area often have good deals on concession items as well as ticket prices. Some discount movie theaters have special promotions and deep-discount days.

Dinner and a Movie

You used to be able to do that at Farrelli’s Cinema Supper Club in Scottsdale, but they closed in October 2011. Although they are not club settings like Farelli's, these movie theaters offer a premium seating option with food and beverage service.

Drive-in Movies

There is one drive-in left in the Valley:

Glendale 9 Drive-In
5650 N. 55th Avenue
Glendale

The drive-in movies in Scottsdale closed in August 2011.
