Railfair is an annual free event where you and your family can see model railroads, full size rail cars and equipment, visit a historical railroad exhibit and watch model railroad building in action. Check out the photos I took at a previous Railfair event.
When is Railfair?October 13 and 14, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where is It?Railfair takes place at McCormick Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale. That is located on the southeast corner of Indian Bend Road and Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, AZ. The address is 7301 E. Indian Bend Road, Scottsdale AZ 85250.
How do I get tickets and how much are they?No tickets are necessary. Admission is free. Parking is free, too. If your child wants to ride on the carousel or take a train ride, tickets for those activities are sold at the event. The rides are $2 each, children under the age of 3 ride free with a paying adult.
What else should I know?Railfair has both outdoor and indoor exhibits. The main attractions are the model train displays where you'll find O, N, and HO scale trains. Some of the displays are simple and straightforward, and some are rather amazing and intricate! Rides on the miniature locomotives take place continuously throughout the day; each ride lasts about 10 minutes.
The Model Railroad Building opened in 2010. It is a 10,000 square foot building where the park's four model railroad clubs work on their trains and tracks.
Life-size trains are on display, too, and you can visit the museum for free during Railfair.
If you want to take a break from the trains -- I wouldn't but some of the little kids do! -- check out the carousel and playground.
