The Arizona State Fair always looks for a large number of people to help create a fun and safe environment for everyone who attends. The Fair is held each October, and people are needed to work for the duration of the three week event, and sometimes for a period of time before and after. Day and evening positions are available. Applicants who are able to work each day of the fair are given priority in hiring. Typically, the positions that they are looking to fill include:

  • Laborers
    The laborers start work during the month of September and are involved in the set up and take down of the Fair. Laborers must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and be prepared for a great deal of physical activity.
  • Custodians
    Custodians begin work with the start of the Fair. Primary positions work 7 days a week for the entire 3 weeks. These positions clean the grounds and/or buildings and restrooms and restock them.
  • Customer Service
    Must be 18 or older. Helps with crowd control and/or seating assistance. Good people skills and a pleasant demeanor are a must. Customer Service staff will be provided with a shirt but you must provide your own black pants and black shoes.
  • Parking Attendants
    Must be 16 or older. Preference is shown for those that are able to work full-time/part-time, 7 days a week for the entire run of the Fair. You must be able to be on your feet for long periods of time in all weather conditions.
  • Ticket Sellers / Takers
    Must be 18 or older. These positions may be in the parking lot, admission gates or in the Midway. You must have recent money handling experience for the ticket sales positions. You must be able to be on your feet for long periods of time
Other positions may also be available, including Switchboard Operators, Childcare Workers, Security Guards, Data Entry Clerks, Plumbers, Painters, Welders and CDL Drivers. You must have reliable transportation to work at the Fair. The Arizona State Fair takes place in downtown / central Phoenix. Here's a map to the Arizona State Fairgrounds so you can tell where you will be going if you get the job. Free parking is provided for those that are hired. The employee parking lot is located at 19th Avenue & Encanto. If you won't be driving, the Fairgrounds are accessible by public transportation.

The AZ State Fair Human Resources Department starts hiring in early August. Then you can apply for a job Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Human Resource Office in the lower level of the Coliseum (west side).

Note: The Arizona State Fair is not required to pay people at the state's minimum wage level. When applying for a position, make sure you ask what the hourly rate is for that job.
