Showup.com includes up-to-the-minute listings and event ticket information for events across the Valley and some events statewide. Event information is presented by category: theatre, music, dance, visual arts, festivals, kids & families, film & video, poetry and literature, world & traditional, museums, special events and free events. Information also is listed chronologically and by region. In addition, the site includes links to news and reviews, lists of venues, artist profiles, classes and workshops and visitor information. A Classified section provides information about jobs and auditions.
Be forewarned--when you visit ShowUp.com you aren't going to find out which bands are playing in town, where to see that 5-star movie, or where to get tickets to the game. The focus for ShowUp.com is on arts and cultural organizations: performing arts, visual arts, literary arts, festivals and the like.
Here's how it works. When you arrive at ShowUp.com you'll see tabs where you can choose to look for events in a particular category, like Dance or Theatre. Click on that tab, and you'll see the featured Phoenix events for that category. Have a specific date in mind? There's a calendar at the top of the page. Select your date, and find all events, sorted by category, that will be showing on that date. Did you find something that looked promising? Before you purchase a ticket for that event, click on the TicketMarketplace at ShowUp.com. Who knows? The event ticket or theater ticket that you are looking for may even be available at a discount! This is the only place in the Valley of the Sun where discount tickets are offered by the participating arts organizations.
If you have been uncertain as to whether or not the Phoenix area has enough cultural activities, the reason probably is that there was never an effort to coordinate all the events in Phoenix.
