Valentine's Day is for girlfriends and boyfriends, spouses, partners, friends, families, first dates, 50th anniversaries and just about anyone who appreciates love and romance. In Greater Phoenix, there is quite a variety of events and activities celebrating Valentine's Day.

Celebrate Valentine's Day in Phoenix - 2009

There are many things that you can do and places you can go on and around Valentine's Day in the Valley of the Sun, but these are specially designed for love and romance.

1 - Take in a concert. From the weekend before Valentine's Day to the weekend after in Greater Phoenix in 2009, you can take in Melissa Manchester, Cedric the Entertainer, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Chris Isaak, David Copperfield, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Robin Williams and Asleep At the Wheel, among others.

2 - Ballet Arizona presents Romeo and Juliet at Symphony Hall in downtown Phoenix.

3- Desert Botanical Garden presents Chihuly: The Nature of Glass. The beauty of a stroll in this wonderful desert garden is enhanced by a temporary installation of various glass art sculptures by this world renowned artist. This year, Target has teamed up with the Garden to offer the first ever free event on Valentine's Day weekend. Saturday, February 14 through Monday, February 16 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. visitors will be able to explore the Garden, view the Chihuly installations and enjoy a full schedule of entertainment and activities. Advance reservations are required. No walk ups will be allowed due to limited parking. If it is sold out, pick another day and pay the price of admission. It's worth it. Desert Botanical Garden is in Phoenix at Papago Park.

4 - The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre is on Valentine's Day in 2009. It's a musical comedy based on a true story about how a house of ill-repute takes on the establishment.

5 - Looking for pretty rocks? The Tucson Gem & Mineral Show is a fun way to to spend Valentine's Day. If you know what you are doing, this might be just the place to find that perfect stone for that perfect piece of jewelry. This year, on February 14th, active military with ID are admitted free.

6 - The Pleasure Feast, served by wenches and tavern knaves at the Arizona Renaissance Festival, includes a six course meal along with two hours of raucous Renaissance entertainment. Admission to the Arizona Renaissance Festival is included with your ticket. Reservations strongly encouraged, as seating is limited.

7 - If you want to impress her with extreme romance -- is an engagement ring part of the plan? -- how about a horse-drawn carriage ride? KC's Classic Carriage Company offers rides in historic Old Town Scottsdale, amongst beautiful fountains, statues, and other attractions in the area. Advance reservations ensure availability.

8 - Phoenix Zoo Jungle Love Valentine’s Date Night provides a "wildly" entertaining evening, where you and your sweetheart are wined, dined, and humored by Jungle Love Talk, a comedic insight to the wild, mild, and out-right bizarre rituals of animal mating. For adult audiences only, ages 21+. $70 per couple. Reservations required (limited to 50 couples). February 14, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
