Halloween isn't just for kids dressed as cartoon characters and adults dressed as sexy barmaids. Our pets (mostly dogs) increasingly want to participate in Halloween-related activities. These are arranged primarily in date order. Of course, there are other ways to celebrate Halloween, and you'll find those here:

Dos Gringos Howl-O-Ween Dog Party
Dog-friendly, Halloween costume party with contests, prizes and lunch for dogs and people. $7 lunch specials for people; dog lunches (chicken & rice) $3; dog beer (non-alcoholic) $3; dog lunch & beer combo $5. Contests: pie eating & fastest tail wagging contests for dogs, costume contests (best dog costume, best owner & dog costume, looks most like owner contest). Dingo Bingo (no charge) with non-cash prizes. Onsite adoptions through MCACC’s New Hope Partners 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reservations for lunch recommended. All dogs must be sociable, on a leash, licensed and current on all vaccinations. All pets adopted during Dos Gringos Howl-O-Ween event will be spayed or neutered and vaccinated.In 2011: October 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cave Creek Wicked Pet Costume Contest & Parade
Animal Health Services is the sponsor for the pet event which will be located in the East Windmill Lot of Frontier Town on the corner of Cave Creek Rd. & N. Linda Drive. Look for Buster the 15 ft Super Dog. Pet vendors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The parade and contest are from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Scariest Costume (1:30pm); Cutest Costume (2:00pm); Open Category (2:30pm). HAAWL-O-Ween Party
The state’s oldest and largest no-kill animal shelter, Arizona Animal Welfare League, holds costume contests for you and your pet. Trick or treating, hay rides. Free admission, donations appreciated.

Halloween in the Hills
Costume contest for dressed pets and pet owners starting at 4:15 p.m. Costume contest: $5 per pet per category befits local organizations, sign up at 3 p.m. Immediately following the costume contest more Halloween fun for humans will take place until about 8 p.m.
