The Traffic Operations Center of the Arizona Department of Transportation provides valuable services to our drivers.
Five Things You Probably Didn't Know About TOC
- The Traffic Operations Center was actually created from a need to closely monitor the safety and conditions within the I-10 Papago Freeway Tunnel located in central Phoenix. It began as one person who used to have a work area right in the tunnel.
- The following roads in the metro Phoenix area are all monitored by TOC: I-10 (Maricopa and Papago Freeways); I-17 (Black Canyon Freeway); SR-51 (Piestewa Peak Parkway); SR-143 (Hohokam Expressway); Loop 101 (Agua Fria, Pima and Price Freeways); and Loop 202 (Red Mountain and San Tan Freeways). There are cameras in Tucson along I-10, as well as at other locations in Arizona monitored by the Traffic Operations Center staff.
- Several events held in the Phoenix area attract especially huge crowds, like certain sporting events, big parades or festivals. In those cases you can get special event traffic information by calling 5-1-1.
- Arizona is the first state to offer comprehensive park information at 5-1-1. Whereas only the Grand Canyon used to be included, now you can get traveler information about 52 parks in Arizona.
- If you are out of town, but you want to access AZ travel information, you can use a toll-free number 1-888-411-ROAD.
