Looking For Snow?

Holiday Snow in the Desert

By Judy Hedding, About.com

Nov 22 2007

Believe it or not, it does snow from time to time in the cooler portions of the Valley where Phoenix, Scottsdale and the other cities and towns of greater Phoenix are located.

In the winter months, it will get down to freezing temperatures at night, and an occasional snowflake can be seen. Usually, we wouldn't get enough snow to create even one snowball, but in 2006 we did have an unusual event, and you can see the photos here!

That's very rare, though. When the holidays come around, kids want to be able to play in the snow, have a snowball fight, and fall and slide in the stuff. If you can't get up north to one of our ski areas in Arizona, there are some holiday festivals where they will actually bring in snow for the kids to play in, or, at the very least, snow flurries!
