I don't especially like surprises when I am out and about attending events, so if you are anything like me in this regard, here are a few tips and items of interest that you might want to know before you pack everyone up in your vehicle to go to the Metro Design Expo.
Metro Design Expo Tips
- Be prepared that unless you are incredibly lucky, you won't find a parking spot on the street near the Phoenix Convention Center within a few blocks. Sure, you might pay $8 or $10 to park in a garage, but at least it's covered parking, and hopefully you're getting in with a discount coupon.
- I have seen parking charges go as high as $20 when there are other special activities going on downtown. You might want to check to see if there is an event or festival going on at Chase Field, US Airways Center or at Historic Heritage and Science Park the on the day that you are going.
- If you have a project in mind for your house or yard, bring the details with you so you can have fruitful discussions with vendors. Bring measurements, color swatches, or whatever you need to narrow down the products and vendors to those that meet your needs and allows them to quote prices. It will save you a lot of time!
- Carry a pen with you (or pick up a freebie at the show). When you collect brochures and business cards, write yourself a note about what made that product or service special, so can remember later why you wanted to look into it further. There's nothing worse than getting home, spreading out 14 brochures on the table, and not knowing which one was which. I speak from experience here!
- Don't worry about knowing which ballrooms you'll be looking for--when you enter the Phoenix Convention Center (west side of the South Building) you'll be there.
