Guide Review - Kristy J Sun Protection Clothing
I had the opportunity to take a look at two of Kristy J's long sleeve "flexi-soft" rashguard blouses. They boast 98% UV protection, and that's great for anyone who lives in a place like Phoenix, where we have sunshine about 300 days per year. A skort bottom with built in sport shorts is also available to match, making it appropriate for both golf and tennis wear.
Here's the thing. These are great for blocking out harmful rays of the sun. Frankly, though, the original purpose of the rash guard was for people who surfed or scuba dived or otherwise needed clothing to protect them not only from the sun, but from the ocean's waves and harsh effects. Basically, they are used as an alternative to wet suits. We have no ocean here, and the wave pools in the area aren't all that harsh! I have never yet seen any adult playing golf or tennis or swimming in a rash guard. Maybe that time will come, as more people become aware of the harmful effects of the sun.
These rash guards are made of nylon and spandex with a polyester lining. Would I would wear anything black and tight fitting -- even if it is moisture wicking -- on 100°F+ summer days in Phoenix? Doubt it. Now, if I was hiking in the mountains, I might consider it.
Kristy J's web site has a few items in colors other than black, and some are tanks or short sleeved. There's also a powder room there (complete with furnishings!) where you can see measurements to be sure that you are ordering the right size.
