Moving to Phoenix Online Course

Although this installment of the relocation course is not just for families with children, those are the people that come to me with the most questions. They have heard that the educational system in Arizona is poor and underfunded. They are concerned that their children may get an inferior education. They want to know where the best schools are so they can send their children there. I'd want to know the same things for my family.

Trivia to Impress Your Friends

- Arizona ranks at or near the bottom (depending on how you define funding) of the 50 states in K-12 education funding (2005).
- Has the third highest student-teacher ratio (2005).
- Arizona drop out rates are among the highest of all the states.
- Arizona ranks 28th in the amount it pays teachers.
- 18 students at Desert Vista High School in Ahwatukee Foothills scored perfect 800s on the math portion of the SAT in 2003.

And One More Thing

According to Guinness World Records, the City Montessori School in Lucknow, India is the largest school, with an enrollment of 26,312 pupils (September 2002). All of them are between the ages of 2 and 5.

Arizona Learns

Trying to Improve Education
The State of Arizona is painfully aware of the criticism it constantly receives when it comes to primary and secondary education. Here is some information about how the State intends to improve.

2005 Tests Show Improvement
Educational achievement in our schools seem to be on the right track. The results of the 2005 Terra Nova (a test that replaced the Stanford 9) and AIMS tests are in. Arizona's students scored at or above the national average in all three categories: reading, language, and math.
