Buca di Beppo

Reviews of Buca di Beppo Submitted by About Phoenix Visitors

By Judy Hedding, About.com Guide

People just have to let me know. They go to a restaurant in the greater Phoenix area, and they either loved it or hated it--there's not much in between! I created these pages so that you, the visitors to About.com Phoenix, could have your say. As for the rating, one star is the worst, five stars is the best.

Now, a word of warning--every once in a while I'll get a review from someone who has a specific agenda in mind. A really bad review might be from a disgruntled employee. A really good review might be from the owner or manager. Unless I specifically mention that I have edited a review for some reason, you see the comments posted here exactly as I received them.

(Glendale) colorfull, noisy crouded, nice area and then comes the food or lack of it. We recently dined there with a group of about 30 youth and adults and were promptly seated as per our reservations In two row of tables The big problem one row was served and it took for ever for the other table to be served so finally we got up and served each other. At no time was there ever enough silver ware or plates to go around and only half of our table could eat at a time . On a scale of 1-10 I would give the servers a 4 only for their smile . I would give the food a 2 and the overall experience a 21/2

(Cincinnati, OH) It was an overall bad experience. It came highly recommended for birthday celebrations and they didn't even celebrate. Even when the server was reminded. When choosing a restaurant, I would NOT choose Buca again. Food all tasted the same. Nothing special about it.

I was not impressed. I can make better Italian food at home - theirs tastes like they simply opened a can of Ragu brand spaghetti sauce. Service at the Arrowhead location not wonderful either.

We have eaten at Buca many times and each occasion seems to impress us. The tour through the kitchen revealed a remarkably clean facility. Not many restaurants show you where the food is prepared. They had all the classic Italian dishes, spagetti, ravioli, chicken parmigiana. But the rest of the menu was quite creative. We were able to try some dishes we had never seen before. The atmosphere was a bit loud, the server informed us that during peek hours it can be that way. The staff was very polite, and everyone we passed said hello or goodbye as we were walking through the restaurant. The portions were huge and we took some food home with us, Buca is probably best suited for large parties. We had four peopple in our party and had enough for lunch the next day boxed up for us.

I havn't tried this place in the Phoenix area yet,but have been to the one here in Salt Lake City,Utah MANY times. This is some of the best Italian food that I've ever had, and I have been to many. The kitchen and dining area are very clean, and I noticed that it is quieter than most other restaurants since the whole place is devided into many rooms. If you think its to noisey, then ask for a smaller room or one with less people! The Calamari appetizer is the best, also the garlic bread with cheese.I really love the Tortoloni-it's my favorite. This place will make you come back for more!"

On a friends suggestion we dropped into Buca di Beppo in Old Town Scottsdale. There was no host and the waiting area smelled dirty and musty. We immediately left. If the lobby smells bad what does the kitchen smell like?
