Reviews of Claim Jumper in the Phoenix Area

By , About.com Guide

People just have to let me know. They go to a restaurant in the greater Phoenix area, and they either loved it or hated it--there's not much in between! I created these pages so that you, the visitors to About.com Phoenix, could have your say. As for the rating, one star is the worst, five stars is the best.

Now, a word of warning--every once in a while I'll get a review from someone who has a specific agenda in mind. A really bad review might be from a disgruntled employee. A really good review might be from the owner or manager. Unless I specifically mention that I have edited a review for some reason, you see the comments posted here exactly as I received them.

(Deer Valley) This place is severely overrated. The service is pretty good, but the food is a whole another story. I ordered the chicken fingers plate for dinner, and I was horrified. The Chicken fingers had no taste except for the grease it was fried in! Eating all those chicken fingers was the equivalent of eating a shot-glass full of frying oil. I dipped the things is the hot-mustard sauce, but could only taste the oil itself. So not only were they severely greasy, but they were not even seasoned. Any fast food joint adds a little seasoning to their chicken fingers! It was aweful. The fries were severely greasy, and couldn't come close to the fries and the fast-food joints. And the graham-crackers crust on the cheesecake I had tasted very stale, as if the crackers have been sitting in a cupboard for several months. Next time I won't hesitate to go to McDonalds. Atleast McDonalds is least greasy, and much more tastier.

(Tempe) As a employee of Claim Jumper I thought I would give a few guidelines to clear up some confusion. If your server isnt the person bringing you food to you table its for a reason. We do not run our own food. This isnt to say that you should not tip us. The fact is that when we leave the kitchen we take whatever food is there. If its our great, but if another server comes to your table it is because your server is bringing food to another table. Our motto is that "everyone helps everyone" we never say no to a request. Dont be alarmed if there is more than one person assisting you.

(Phoenix) The waitress ignored us most of the time we were there. She never brought us any of the bread that comes with the meals (2 of the party of 3 had $18.95 meals). She never brought the Thai peanut cole slaw that was ordered. Other people brought the combo appetizer and later the meals, so we didn't have much opportunity to ask for our this stuff, and as we got busy visiting with each other, we forgot about it too. That shouldn't have been on us to remember. She could have offered. She told my son that he wouldn't taste the coconut in the batter coating on the fish that he ordered, but he could and he didn't like his meal. We still gave her a 15% tip anyone because I usually tip well (a lot of times 20%). I spent $100 altogether. I hear restaurants such as these tend to give terrible service when it's a female head of the party. I see no point in going back.

(Deer Valley) I eat at Claim Jumper at least 3 times per month. This location has one of the best steak and lobster dinners in the Valley and continues to deliver innovative, delicious, and satisfying meals. I often order the crab wedge salad chopped, with feta substituted for blue cheese crumbles and balsamic instead of blue cheese dressing. Servers always are gracious and accept my sometimes complicated substitutions. The only complaint I may offer is that service has been a little slow, but I am willing to wait for a perfectly cooked meal.

(Roseville, California) We spent over $200.00 for 4 people and the food was horrible and the restaurant was one step up from a Sizzler. We researched the spot online and the website made the place seem up-scale. It is really assume that false advertising is used instead of creating a better establishment. They need to reduce the menu and concentrate on making the food better and the atmosphere more comparable to what they display on the website. Never go. It is a farce.
