Guide Review - Garcia's Mexican Restaurant
Three of us stopped in for lunch at Garcia's Mexican Restaurant. It starts out very well with great, big, light, crispy, fresh chips--some of the best I've had around. They bring small dishes of salsa and bean dip. People who like salsa hot know to ask for the hot stuff from the back. That's me! I give their hot sauce a thumbs up. I wish they'd just bring one small dish of salsa and bean dip for each person, since they are too small to share.
We each ordered an entree: Sizzling Fajitas ($10), Seafood Fundido ($11) and the Build Your Own Combo 2 Items ($7.50). We didn't get the 2 items in the combo that we ordered, but what we did receive was fine. The Seafood Fundido was a disappointment--lots of tortilla, and very little seafood or fundido. Fajitas was the star of the choices, with lots of meat and vegetables that were crisp, and not overcooked or soaked in oil.
We enjoyed both desserts that we ordered. The flan ($3) was very refreshing, and the apple flautas ($3.50) came warm with vanilla ice cream--yum! Two of you can share the flautas.
I was disappointed in the margarita ($6.75) which, in my opinion, seemed to barely include any alcohol.
I hope it was our server's first day, and that it got better for him. We ordered two drinks, both were wrong. One of our three entrees was wrong. And more. The review I've given Garcia's Mexican Restaurant here, however, does not at all reflect the poor service.
Do not confuse Garcia's Mexican Restaurant with Garcia's Las Avenidas at 35th Ave. That one is still a family restaurant, and is the one that was the beginning of the other franchises, but is no longer associated with them.
