The Bottom Line

Dinner before the theatre brought us to Kincaid's at the Collier Center. We ordered one appetizer, one soup, one salad, three entrees and two desserts. The total, excluding beverages, tax and tip, came to about $40 per person.
Pros
  • Excellent food
  • An upscale restaurant in downtown Phoenix
  • Excellent service
Cons
  • Not much of a view

Description

  • Kincaid's is a chain, but there are less than 10 of them nationwide. There's only one in Arizona.
  • There's a children's menu at Kincaid's.
  • Vegetarians won't be happy at Kincaid's!
  • Kincaid's is open for lunch on weekdays. It's a good place for a business lunch.
  • A special value three course meal for about $20 is available at Kincaid's after 8 p.m.

Guide Review - Kincaid's Fish, Chop & Steak House

In the 25+ years that I have been visiting downtown Phoenix, there has really only been a very few nice restaurants where one can enjoy a fine meal before the theatre, or the symphony, or even a sporting event (if you leave your big foam finger in the car). If a view of Phoenix isn't your priority, then Kincaid's offers a lovely environment with great food.

There's a standard menu at Kincaid's that you can view online, as well as a special menu that you'll receive upon arrival. All the fish served at Kincaid's is fresh, having been delivered within 36 hours of having been caught (not farm-raised). All entrees are served with a starch and fresh vegetable.

Our appetizer, the Grilled Chicken Skewers ($8) consisted of four plump, tender pieces of marinated chicken with a home-made chunky peanut sauce. The Smoked Salmon Chowder ($6.50) was good, but I believe the salad was the best starter of the three. The Mixed Greens with Maple Vinaigrette ($6.50) was delicious; it will be difficult for me to pick another salad to try next time we visit.

Of the Filet Minion ($30.50), Asiago-Almond Crusted Sea Scallops ($24) and Prime Rib ($27.50) I find it difficult to choose my favorite. I'd order any of them again. Love those gratin potatoes and crispy onion strings!

The Burnt Cream, or Creme Brulee, was creamy and perfectly, lightly caramelized ($6) and I don't know how we found room for the Chocolate Tort ($7.50) with fresh strawberries and vanilla ice cream--but we did.

Add plenty of fine wine selections and jazz as background music along with superior service, and Kincaid's is a big thumbs up for me.

Tidbit: Apparently every Kincaid's has someone create the artwork for the restaurants from postcards of local interest.
