Guide Review - Bitz-ee Mama's

Bitz-ee Mama's in one of a few restaurants in Historic Downtown Glendale, AZ. It's a family-oriented restaurant that distinguishes itself from your typical Mexican place in two major ways. First, they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I love a Mexican breakfast! Second, they have quite an extensive American menu, so if you are really in the mood for a burger or a Philly Steak sub, Bitz-ee Mam's can take care of that for you. Likewise, in the salad department, there are both fajita and taco salads as well as Italian and chef's salads.

When it comes to typical Mexican places, there is often not much to distinguish one from the other. I often base my decisions on salsa. The salsa at Bit-zee Mama's wasn't one of my favorites, very tomato-ey. Since I like it hot, I always ask the server for the stuff they keep in the back for special requests. I didn't find theirs hot at all.

The guacamole appetizer ($6) was served very cold, right from the frig, I'd guess. I asked the server why it wasn't prepared tableside, as indicated in the menu. She said they never prepare it that way, and she looked at the menu. "Huh, I never noticed it said that" was her response.

Mexican Pizza ($7), pictured above, was light on meat. Other items we ordered, like the Steak Picado entree ($11) and the chicken burro ($5) were fine.

Overall, my experience at Bit-zee Mama's was simply OK. I wouldn't make it a destination, and there are other restaurants in downtown Glendale I'd go first, but if I wanted a chorizo and eggs breakfast, I'd go back and give it another try. As far as stars are concerned, I gave it a bit over total middle of the road for the menu variety. The Mexican food, itself, really wasn't even 3 stars for me.
