Guide Review - Majerle's Sports Grill
The original Majerle's Sports Grill located in downtown Phoenix is right across the street from the US Airways Center where the Phoenix Suns play. His newest venture, 15 years after the opening of the first one, is in Chandler at the Chandler Fashion Center.
You might not see as many athletes on game night at the Chandler Majerle's Sports Grill as you would in downtown Phoenix, or 5,000 fans trying to get in after a game, but I understand that Dan stops by often. There are a few pieces of "Thunder Dan" and Suns memorabilia here, but the focus is on the 18 big TVs, the bar and the food.
We began our meal at Majerle's Sports Grill with the Crab Stack ($10), an order of Chili Pepper Garlic Wings ($8.60) and a bowl of New England Clam Chowder ($4.60). The clam chowder had an unexpected look, but it was very good. Gorilla Wings were not really spicy, but crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Well done. The Crab Stack was nice to look at, but a disappointment to eat since the beefsteak tomatoes were not ripe and lacked any flavor.
Joe Kleine's Chicago Bleu ($9) burger was a nice size with those crispy onion strings that I love. The meat in the Flat Iron Steak Sandwich ($11) was tender and plentiful. The Bacon & Bleu Pizza was unusual, with blue cheese instead of mozzarella on a thin, bready base with bacon bits, tomatoes and peppers. I enjoyed it, but I love bleu cheese, and lots of it.
The Chocolate Eruption Dessert wasn't warm, nor did it erupt or even ooze, but it was very nice -- not too sweet for all that chocolate and cheesecake. One Chocolate Eruption was more than enough for three of us to share. We'd order it again.
Other items I've tried there: Mac 'n' Cheese (skip it) and Barbecue Chicken Pizza (very good, but small), Crab Melt (good).
