The Bottom Line

On a Saturday afternoon my friends and I stopped in to Silk Road Asia Bistro for lunch. We shared three appetizers, two entrees and a rice dish. Excluding drinks, tax, and tip, the total came to about $12 per person.

Pros

  • Reasonably priced
  • Simple, clean environment
  • Nicely presented food

Cons

  • Fried foods overdone
  • Nothing unusual here

Description

  • Silk Road Asia Bistro is open for lunch and dinner. It is located in Chandler near Chandler Fashion Mall.
  • There are lunch specials Silk Road Asia Bistro every day, including weekends. They come with soup and an egg roll.
  • Prices are reasonable at Silk Road Asia Bistro.
  • The web site for Silk Road Asia Bistro has some fancy flash intros, but really no information other than the menu.

Guide Review - Silk Road Asia Bistro

We had no trouble finding the perfect table at Silk Road Asia Bistro when we stopped in on what we thought would be a busy Saturday afternoon, right at peak lunch time. Not a customer was in sight, and that didn't change by the time we left about an hour later.

Silk Road Asia Bistro has a simple, clean, and dull look to it. No tablecloths, but nice silver and china. Actually, many of the tables were not really set for customers. Our server brought salt and pepper shakers, soy sauce and such to our table after we were seated. The music system was playing Top 40.

We ordered three appetizers. First out was the calamari, which was overdone and too heavily battered with a little bit of calamari in it. Pass. The spring rolls, though also left in the fryer too long, were crispy and nice on the inside, and the Thai Satay skewers were moist--our favorite of the three.

Lunch specials at Silk Road Asia Bistro come with soup. Thumbs up on the chicken egg drop, thick and with veggies, and thumbs down on the hot and sour, which was watery and not hot.

Chicken fried rice with pork was fine, and General Tso's chicken was predictably sticky but acceptable. The Shrimp With Lobster Sauce made up for its lack of flavor with fresh onions, and fresh red and green peppers. Egg rolls were--guess what?--overcooked.

Aside from the fried foods, the items we tried at Silk Road Asia Bistro were OK, but there was nothing there that would make us select Silk Road Asia Bistro over other Asian restaurants the next time we have a hankering. Our server told us that Silk Road Asia Bistro is never really busy, and I guess we aren't surprised.
