Review of Rocky Point (Puerto Peñasco)

Rocky Point, Mexico--or Puerto Peñasco--is a favorite destination for many Phoenix area residents because it is the closest beach we have. Rocky Point is also very popular during Spring Break, so if you are considering a visit, take that into account. If you aren't a student traveling with your friends, Spring Break is a great time to avoid going to Rocky Point!

This Rocky Point review has not been edited, except in the case where a vacation rental or other business is being promoted, which I don't allow, or in the case of inappropriate language. I will indicate in the review if any deletions have been made.

Rocky Point, Mexico

I have been going to Rocky Point for over 20 years with my family and have never had a problem... until last weekend. While my fiance and i were carefully and slowly driving our (very nice) quads down a side street we were stopped by the "police". he told us to get off the quads and that he was confiscating them. when we asked him why he proceeded to put my fiance in hand cuffs, shoved him into his truck and told him that he was going to pay big time to get the quads back. i speak spanish and tried to reason with the "officer" and resolve whatever problem he thought there was. while i am conversing with the "officer" other "officers" attempted to take the quads (in which they were unsuccessful as the quads are manual transmission). the "officer" proceeded to be so hostile and violent with my fiance that severely hurt him. other "officers" including the "assistencia touristica" (tourist help officer) came by... saw my fiance on the ground in agony.. then told us we had two options... either to go to the hospital, have out quads taken from us, and spend the night in jail. OR to just go and not tell anyone anything. in fear for our lives we chose to go. as we turned the corner they stopped us AGAIN (keep in mind that at this point we think that my fiance has a broken arm) and tell us that we still need to pay them. we know not to pay bribes but at this point we are in serious fear for out safety so we give them our money and they leave. rocky point is good and fine for 18 year olds who just want to get wasted but not for families (& people who carry more than $20 on them including their vehicle) as article is the only form of retribution that we will ever have.
