Beware of Offers for Free Gas Cards or Free Grocery Gift Cards

Mesa Company Scams Consumers By Offering a Free Gas Card That Never Arrives

By , About.com Guide

The Better Business Bureau of Central, Northern & Western Arizona is alerting consumers about a company in Mesa, Arizona that advertises free gas and grocery gift cards.

Retailers sign up to participate in BBZ’s voucher program. Ads say that consumers who make a purchase will receive a voucher for a free gas or grocery gift card in an amount ranging from $100 to $500. The consumer, after making the purchase, is then instructed to register online to receive the free gift card(s). After registering, consumers must then purchase $100 dollars worth of gas a month and send in receipts to BBZ before the end of that month. Once the consumer follows those instructions they are suppose to receive their first $25 gift card. Thereafter they are supposed to receive $25 gas cards each month with a $100 gas purchase until they have received the original advertised amount.

The BBB has received hundreds of complaints 40 states about this free gas/free grocery gift card voucher program. The complaints basically fall into four categories:

  1. Never received free gas card or free grocery gift card
  2. Delay of up to 20 weeks before receiving gift cards
  3. Received free gas card or free grocery gift card, but it was not activated
  4. Free gas card is for a gas station outside of consumer’s area

The Better Business Bureau has linked Troy Warren, linked to past questionable business dealings, to BBZ Resource Management. BBZ Resource Management has responded to some of the complaints filed at the BBB, but the company has an F rating with Better Business Bureau due to the serious nature of some complaints and failure to correct the underlying reason for the complaints.

Better Business Bureau believes that BBZ Resource Management is associated with the following websites:

Better Business Bureau advises strong caution to any business or consumer considering participation in BBZ Resource Management’s incentive program. In general, consumers are warned to be wary of any program that has difficult or cumbersome processes for participating; that's usually a red flag that the program is based on people not being able or forgetting to complete all the required procedures.
