Where is it?
This year's event will be played at the new Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus. The golf course is about 100 miles (a 2 hour drive) from downtown Phoenix, so you'll need to compute your distance and time of travel accordingly. Take I-10 East toward Tucson. Exit at Tangerine Road, Exit 240. This exit is north of downtown Tucson, so if you are driving from Phoenix you won't have to go through downtown Tucson to get there. Parking is located ½ mile east of I-10 on Tangerine Road. There is parking charge. Typically the shuttles start taking people from the parking areas a half hour before the gates open.
How do I get tickets and how much are they? You can order grounds tickets (general admission) online through Ticketmaster (Buy Tickets Direct).
Advance ticket prices in 2014 are:
Monday, Tuesday Practice Round: $25 each day
Wednesday, Thursday: $50 each day
Weekly Package: $125
Tickets are $10 more at the gate. Children 18 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a ticketed adult (one child per person).
Are there any single ticket discounts available?
Complimentary admission to all active, reserve and military retirees and their dependents. Non-retired military veterans along with one guest are eligible to receive discounted tickets. All military must get verified on-line in advance of the event and bring their downloaded voucher along with matching photo ID to the Ticket Sales window at the tournament entrance gate to receive their offer. A $1 verification fee applies to all those going through the system. Call for more info, 888-238-9835.
What else should I know?
You can purchase pairing sheets once you are inside the gate. The PGA does not allow/condone the scalping of tickets "on the course, in the parking lots or on surrounding roads." Cameras or video cameras are allowed during Monday and Tuesday Practice Rounds only.
No backpacks, purses or bags larger than 6"x6"x6". Folding chairs are allowed without the bags, but no large folding chairs. Phones/mobile devices are permitted if they are set to vibrate or silent mode and may be used only in designated areas. No coolers, periscopes, radios, signs, banners, firearms or knives are permitted.
On practice days the gates open at 7:30 a.m. On the days of the actual matches, the starting times vary. Here is the schedule.
On Sunday, for the Championship Match, spectators are invited onto the fairway to follow behind the Championship Match starting at the first hole, weather permitting. Fans must remain at least 50 feet back from play and follow the instructions of the marshals. All mobile devices must be on silent mode and put away. Do not attempt to speak with any golfers during their match.
Proceeds from the Accenture Match Play Championship primarily benefit The Tucson Conquistadores charities, including The First Tee of Tucson, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA and Pima County Special Olympics.
Will it be on television?
Yes. Starting on Thursday you can find coverage on the Golf Channel.
Where to Stay Nearby
Making a nice weekend out of the event? You can probably find rooms nearby for around $100 per night at Holiday Inn Express (Book a Reservation) or the Fairfield Inn & Suites Tucson North/Oro Valley (Book a Reservation). If you want to go a bit more upscale, try these resorts on the north side of Tucson: Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa (Book a Reservation); Loews Ventana Canyon Resort (Book a Reservation); Westward Look Resort (Book a Reservation). Of course, if you want to stay right at the Ritz Carlton, you can book that reservation here.
Where is a good place to have dinner in the evening?
I had a lovely, quiet and upscale dinner at the Core Kitchen & Wine Bar at Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain. You can read about that experience on the next page.
