Arizona's Largest Cities All Grew in Population

There are 293 cities in the U.S. with a population over 100,000, according to July 2013 U.S. Census estimates. Ten of them are in Arizona. Many of our cities dropped in rank during the past decade, a result of the recession generally causing people to move outside of urban centers, and possibly as a result of the effect of illegal immigration issues in Arizona causing people to leave. Still, while many cities in the U.S had negative growth over the decade from 2000 to 2010, Arizona's largest cities and towns all grew, albeit at a slower rate than in past decades.

Of those 293 cities:

Phoenix is ranked #6 and grew 4.69% from 2010 to 2013.

Tucson is ranked #33 and grew 1.15% from 2010 to 2013.

Mesa is ranked #38 and grew 4.22% from 2010 to 2013.

Chandler is ranked #79 and grew 5.52% from 2010 to 2013.

Glendale is ranked #87 and grew 3.49% from 2010 to 2013.

Scottsdale is ranked #95 and grew 4.39% from 2010 to 2013.

Gilbert is ranked #92 and grew 10.32% from 2010 to 2013.

Tempe is ranked #143 and grew 4.02% from 2010 to 2013.

Peoria is ranked #149 and grew 5.53% from 2010 to 2013.

Surprise is ranked #216 and grew 5.13% from 2010 to 2013.
