Guide Review - Late Nite Catechism
It's been playing here for years, so the "I don't have time" excuse was wearing thin. We went to see Late Nite Catechism at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. I'm glad we did.
Late Nite Catechism plays on Friday nights throughout much of the year. The sequel, Late Nite Catechism II: Sometimes We Feel Guilty Because We Are Guilty, is offered on most Saturday nights. You will have no problem going to LNC II even if you haven't seen the first one. Sister might just have to give you some extra assignments for you to catch up!
Late Nite Catechism is a one-nun show starring Patti Hannon, who has performed this role in major U.S. cities for years and now lives in the Valley of the Sun. She is an expert at improvisation, which is the core of the charm of the show. She clearly has a script, er, well, maybe an outline, of how the performance will proceed, but the audience plays a large part in this show. Come to the class ready to pay attention to Sister's views on society, the Catholic church, and appropriate behavior. Above all, come in a good mood with a willingness to laugh out loud. She might embarrass you, but it's all for your own good....
This show is appropriate for everyone. It makes a good date night, with options within walking distance for before-show dinner or after-show snacks or drinks. It's a good "girls' night out" show, and a great option if you have 2 or 3 couples that want to go out together to see something light.
Patti Hannon is so natural in the role that you really do forget that you are at the theatre.
Gotta go. I have homework.
