Now, a word of warning--every once in a while I'll get a review from someone who has a specific agenda in mind. A really bad review might be from a disgruntled employee. A really good review might be from the owner or manager. Unless I specifically mention that I have edited a review for some reason, you see the comments posted here exactly as I received them.

Date: March 2008 (Mesa) I truly love the food at this location, however I have noticed that the servers and even the manager handle money but yet they grab toast, butter it, and place it on the plate. I thought that food handlers were not supposed to also handle money.

(Peoria) This is a family restaurant where everyone should have fun! The menu is wide with choices of food from the 50's. They have fantastic shakes and you don't get cheated on the volume. Kids love this place. They are given a waiter hat to wear, page to color and great music. The only thing I miss is that when it first opened you could play your favorite oldies but goodies on the machine at each table. Now you can't. They still have a nice juke box! I would say to those who have complained of the food, sent it back if there is a problem. Instead of trashing a place give them the chance to make it right! For me, it's always been right!

Those of you who call this a one star restaurant because the steaks aren't those of Ruth's Chris' and the place isn't open and spread out make me sick. Apparently you've never been to a real diner before, or you'd know that is how atmosphere is supposed to be. The waitresses aren't supposed to treat you like you're at the Compass Room and you aren't paying for filet mignon, so don't be so sickeningly picky. As for my opinion, a person who dines in all types and levels of restaurants, I think all of the 5 & Diners are doing a great job!

I absolutely love the diner. It is one of the best places to go to and eat if you want a casual but comfortable place instead of Jack in the Box or Charlestons where you can get good food and service for a reasonable price. My friends and I go there at least once a week and we always enjoy the experience.

The food is the high point of this dining experience, and even that isn't too good. The service isn't just bad, it's hostile. The place is so tiny and stuffy (including the bathrooms) and dirty, it doesn't help having to listen to nearly every single server complain about their job, their customers, the kitchen staff, the management, etc. No joke, the waitstaff here actually go out of their way to make this experience unenjoyable. My waitress was irritated I hadn't memorized her name (although she never bothered to tell me her name) and called her 'Miss'. I had to ask for coffee from anyone else who might happen to walk near my table and almost make eye contact (they don't bother to ask you if you want anything, ever). My dirty dishes remained on my table for the duration of my meal. I had to ask for the check. If you fancy a cheap night out, as in feeling no need to leave any sort of tip, this is the place to go. If you don't fancy eating in a dirty, stuffy, stinky trailer, complete with lots of trash-talking from the waitstaff, then give it a miss. This restaurant is nothing short of an insult to food, fun and the fifties (their motto apparently).

The 5 and Diner on 16th street in Phoenix has turned dramatically for the better! I was in there recently and had the best experience with food and service. They changed managers and there was alot of new faces. Lots of fun and entertainment. Sit back eat your food a listen to the staff. Those people are alot of fun!
