BeDillon's Restaurant

Reviews of BeDillon's Restaurant Submitted by About.com Phoenix Visitors

By , About.com Guide

People just have to let me know. They go to a restaurant in the greater Phoenix area, and they either loved it or hated it--there's not much in between! I created these pages so that you, the visitors to About.com Phoenix, could have your say. As for the rating, one star is the worst, five stars is the best.

Now, a word of warning--every once in a while I'll get a review from someone who has a specific agenda in mind. A really bad review might be from a disgruntled employee. A really good review might be from the owner or manager. Unless I specifically mention that I have edited a review for some reason, you see the comments posted here exactly as I received them.

As owner of Bedillons, I am compelled to respond to the comment from an unnamed Afro-American. No one that has a reservation waits more than 3 minutes at most for a table. Thats why we extend the courtesy of taking reservations. Having worn a ponytail for most of my life and having lived in Mexico for four years, I know prejudice very well.Having grown up in Casa Grande, I have life long friends of every color and race has never been an issue for me or my family that work there. In fact, we all voted Obama! We will save you a table and look forward to your reservation.

The owners of this restaurant are prejudiced and I am not the only African American in Casa Grande who feels this way. I had a reservation, waited over 30 minutes to be seated, waited another 15 minutes for wait staff to stop by our table. This is totally unacceptable in these times and I will never go back again.

My wife and I found BeDillons restaurant one evening after having visited the Casa Grande Historical Society's nearby museum. We were so pleased that we have returned many times and have always had the same experience...excellent. Simply put, this is the best restaurant (and the only place with great steaks) we have yet found in Pinal County. Not to mention live music in the cactus garden on Friday evenings during the months that traditionally bring the most comfortable weather to AZ. BeDillons is operated by a local celebrity whom you'll find usually opens the door for you when you arrive, and is more than happy to make conversation with you while you are visiting. A fantastic dining experience...outshines everything else in Casa Grande....

We found a really good restaurant in Casa Grande. BeDillon's has been there in one form or another since 1917, its present incarnation as a resturant since 1989. They do not have a website, but they do have a cactus garden where dinner was also being served the night we were there. We ate indoors. They also serve food at their full bar. Decor is old Arizona, with branding irons, ox collars, and paintings from long ago mixed with a few modern Western artists. Acoustics are good. An overall peasant atmosphere, made even moreso by our waitress and bus staff. They maintain a museum on the premises that features Hohokam artifacts as well as items old collected from the Casa Grande area. Dinner comes with soup or salad and main courses come with mixed vegetables that had actually been blanched before they were cooked and a choice of twice-baked potato, fries, rice, baked potato, beans, or fideo. There is a reaonably-priced wine list offering maybe 30 selections. Our dinner salads were fresh and crisp. One of our guests had a jicama salad, the other had a thick, tasty soup. My dinner partner had the small (9 oz) prime rib which was done just the way she liked it. Our guests had Chicken Monterey and T-bone steak, which they enjoyed. I selected the New York strip and was most pleased. Service was excellent but not obtrusive; finished plates were removed promptly. We did not sample desserts but what I saw served to an adjacent table made me wish I was still not on a diet. Our total bill - dinner, wine, tax, and tip - came to just over $30 per person. If you live in South Phoenix, Chandler, or Queen Creek, Casa Grande is probably as close as downtown Phoenix or Mesa. It took us just over 40 minutes to get from the restaurant to our home in Mesa - a few minutes longer than it takes us to get to downtown Scottsdale or the Biltmore area of Phoenix. It was an interesting discover for us and I hope it will be of benefit to some of you. You will need to make reservations - even on a weeknight!
