People just have to let me know. They go to a restaurant in the greater Phoenix area, and they either loved it or hated it--there's not much in between! I created these pages so that you, the visitors to About.com Phoenix, could have your say. As for the rating, one star is the worst, five stars is the best.
Now, a word of warning--every once in a while I'll get a review from someone who has a specific agenda in mind. A really bad review might be from a disgruntled employee. A really good review might be from the owner or manager. Unless I specifically mention that I have edited a review for some reason, you see the comments posted here exactly as I received them.
Reviews of Compass Restaurant

For some years I really enjoyed the Compass Restaurant at the Hyatt in downtown Phoenix, but last night's experience tells me the place isn't any longer something Phoenicians can be proud of. I took a retired naval officer with me for dinner and couldn't believe a nearly $20 appetizer that turned out to be a thin, tiny piece of toast with three small shrimps on it, covered with some sickening mess of a sauce. The shrimps weren't even totally shelled. Then worse, I ordered a wedge of iceberg lettuce that came with a few token droppings of olives and cheese with a thinned out white sauce. When I cut into the wedge, it was rusty colored and ended up being really sour inside. I sent it back to the kitchen, but then this burly arrogant waiter came to argue with me about it, and wouldn't take the unconsumed plate off the bill. This same waiter had been arrogant and bossy all along, very much "in our face" thinking he was the star event and not the food itself. i probably wouldn't have written this review except for the tragedy in terms of how Hyatt has allowed this once-fine restaurant and the pride of Phoenix go so far downhill in both food and "service". BTW, there were hardly any other customers there...it used to be packed with happy diners, but apparently no more according to one hostess there last night. No wonder at all.

It was a very romantic setting with excellent service. I took my fiance there when we found out we were going to have a boy. The waiters were very kind and serviced us right away. the food was very exquisite, and the atmosphere was perfect. I spoke with the GM Jason for a quick second and he was a very kind man, and to top it off right after the delicious dessert fireworks starting going off right next to where we were sitting i will definently be back again soon!

Our company holiday dinner was at the Compass Restaurant this year. When our entrée’s arrived our president was not served. We told our waitress about the missing a meal. She rushed off to check. Additional wait staff we notified as they came by of the dilemma. About 20 minutes later our waitress returned and asked how we were doing. Again we stressed the missing meal. Again she fled to check. The manager walked past and we told her of the problem. 45 min. later we are all finished eating and still no entrée. He never did get his steak.
FOLLOW-UP COMMENT: This is a follow up review of my company’s Holiday Even on the 5th of Dec. Succeeding this even our president was contacted by the Food and Beverage Director of the Hyatt Regency Phoenix were the restaurant is located. The Director was very apologetic and gracious. An offer of a free dinner for two was extended and the director has requested that he be notified the next visit our president makes to the restaurant so that he may personally oversee the event. Additionally our office was sent coffee and bagels with further contrition.

Went to Mother's Day Champagne Brunch. It was great. We have traditionally attended Bistro 24 at the Ritz Carlton for such occasions, but they have had a tendency to move the seating to a banquet hall for large occasions. The food was excellent, perfectly prepared for the most part (the roast beef was a bit overcooked, but that is to be expected I guess as most patrons don't like properly cooked beef). Seafood was fresh and tasty, desserts were absolutely stunning, and delicious, traditional breakfast fare was great. Views were to die for, wait staff was VERY attentive and submitted proper etiquette nearly the entire time. I will be visiting Compass again, and it has trumped Bistro 24 for my future celebrations.

We went here for Valentine's Day and had a awful time. First, the hostess refused to seat us at the table I requested. Second, the food was overpriced and undercooked. Third, the waiters would only bring us water if we asked for it. Finally, as it got later in the evening some of the window tables began to clear out, so we took our glass of wine to look out over the city and the manager came over and told us to move. Very unprofessional. Not a classy place at all. Great view, but we will never go back. Spare yourself, trust me.
