Reviews of E. J.'s Steakhouse Submitted by About.com Phoenix Visitors

People just have to let me know. They go to a restaurant in the greater Phoenix area, and they either loved it or hated it--there's not much in between! I created these pages so that you, the visitors to About.com Phoenix, could have your say. As for the rating, one star is the worst, five stars is the best.

Now, a word of warning--every once in a while I'll get a review from someone who has a specific agenda in mind. A really bad review might be from a disgruntled employee. A really good review might be from the owner or manager. Unless I specifically mention that I have edited a review for some reason, you see the comments posted here exactly as I received them.

I really have never put up a review of a restaurant but I thought I should after reading some of the remarks about EJ’s Steakhouse in East Mesa. First off let me say that I do not eat out very often. I love to cook for myself as well as my friends and family. However, my wife convinced me to take her out for a well-deserved night out away from the family. We arrived last Friday (4-11-08) at 7:00 p.m. for our reservation. We were seated promptly and were greeted by our server within a few minuets, just enough time to settle in. He was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. We started with the beefsteak tomato and mozzarella appetizer, which was great. I decided to go for the gusto and order the “house special” 12 oz bone-in filet while my wife went with the prime rib. Both cooked to perfection and very flavorful. The side dishes were large portions and delicious as well. We finished off our dinner with the crème Brule that I have to say was better than what I make at home. All in all I was very pleased with my experience and will defiantly visits EJ’s again in the near future.

Terrible! I wish there was a way to give this place no stars. The crazy thing is this was my second time dining at EJ's. I must say the first time was actually a very good experience. The second time was horrendous. The steak we had was by far one of the worst steaks I'd ever had. Adding insult to injury the price was exorbitant. You think they'd find a way to compensate for the bad meal, not a chance. The manager/owner was arrogant and insulting. He offered me a 10$ gift card. I gave it back to him and let them know that I'd share my expience with as many people as I could.

This is my first time to Mesa Arizona. I am out here visiting my family. We decided to go out for dinner to EJs.We arrived at 6:15 and decided to go into the bar for a few cocktails before we sat down for dinner, the Bar tender was great he even told us about a few great places to go see why we are here. We sat down for dinner about 7:30 and ordered the 16oz prime tenderloin x 2. the steaks were cooked perfect and the service was outstanding. We finished the dinner off with the cheese cake it was great.I do not know how people like CHRISTIAN MURRAY would write anything bad about this place, obviously they have never been to a fine dinning steakhouse before!!!! Thanks for a fun time.

Worst, Worst, Worst! Have you ever heard of a restaurant so sure of complaints that it prints a disclaimer on the menu? A steak house that cannot cook steak and knows it! Underlined, in bold red print, each menu states, “NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR STEAKS ORDERED MED WELL OR WELL DONE”. I am not joking – it really does say this. According to the management, this text means that you, the customer, have forfeited your rights and must pay full price, regardless of quality and whether they bring you what you in fact ordered! Overpriced, low quality cuts, callously slopped onto the table by indifferent, ignorant and arrogant staff. Laughable, positive reviews on this site must have been submitted by the owners themselves. No sane diner could feel anything but disgust after enduring the appalling service of inadequately prepared, bargain basement meats, sold at exorbitant prices. My advice - eat absolutely anywhere else at all.
