Sakana Sushi

Reviews of Sakana Sushi Submitted by About.com Phoenix Visitors

By Judy Hedding, About.com

People just have to let me know. They go to a restaurant in the greater Phoenix area, and they either loved it or hated it--there's not much in between! I created these pages so that you, the visitors to About.com Phoenix, could have your say. As for the rating, one star is the worst, five stars is the best.

Now, a word of warning--every once in a while I'll get a review from someone who has a specific agenda in mind. A really bad review might be from a disgruntled employee. A really good review might be from the owner or manager. Unless I specifically mention that I have edited a review for some reason, you see the comments posted here exactly as I received them.

(Ahwatukee) I am a sushi fanatic and I have been to nearly all the sushi establishments in Phx and Sakana is by far the best. They have extremely fresh fish, the combinations of ingredients is excellent and the quanity of food is awesome. It gets crowded so get their early and plan on having a great experience. I highly recommend Sakana and hope you enjoy it.

(Ahwatukee/Phoenix) I have been frequenting your 59th ave & 101 location since they opened. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences there. I just went to the I-10 & Elliot location last night and I will never be back. The service was poor at best. The wait staff certainly lacks the charm of the west valley locale. Our gyoza plate was taken away while we were still dipping them in the sauce on the plate. I was given two tea bags and a kettle with only hot water when I ordered green tea. The real problem was when we received our bill. There was over a $100 difference between the bill we received and the actual total. When we brought this to the waitresses attention she took the bill and then came back to loudly let us know in front of everyone that we were wrong. I calmly asked the waitress for an itemized bill. Apparently this was out of line because she stormed up to the front. We followed her and were promptly mistreated by the cashier. She advised me I was wrong. I asked for an itemization when she huffed and puffed and started adding the bill again. The third attempt finally had the correct amount. I paid the tab and did something I have never done in my life. I did not leave a tip. The manager did apologize but this was only after the fact and only because they finally realized their error. My problem with the service may be the fault of the wonderful service at the west valley locale. My real issue is with the way I was spoken to. I was embarassed at my seat and at the front of the restaurant. I will assure you I never spoke loudly or disrespectly to anyone there. I did not prompt any disrespect. Anyone can make a mistake. The problem is your staff doesn't seem to think anyone has a right to question something. The only reason I was at that location is because I have a group of friends that go to every sushi location in the valley and rate them. I can assure you my opinion is highly thought of. This restaurant failed at the easiest thing to do. They failed at making my experience there enjoyable.
