Stumpy's Pizza

Reviews of Stumpy's Pizza in Phoenix, AZ

By Judy Hedding, About.com

People just have to let me know. They go to a restaurant in the greater Phoenix area, and they either loved it or hated it--there's not much in between! I created these pages so that you, the visitors to About.com Phoenix, could have your say. As for the rating, one star is the worst, five stars is the best.

Now, a word of warning--every once in a while I'll get a review from someone who has a specific agenda in mind. A really bad review might be from a disgruntled employee. A really good review might be from the owner or manager. Unless I specifically mention that I have edited a review for some reason, you see the comments posted here exactly as I received them.

The BEST pizza I have ever had. The service is wonderful. This pizza beats LGO, The Pizzeria, CPK, Slices, Mama Mia's, Oregano's, and Grimaldi's to name a few. If you haven't been there....GO!! The atmosphere is lacking but for a quick lunch or take-out dinner you can not go wrong.

I took my two children to Phoenix over Spring Break. We stayed at the Best Western on Northern. Stumpy's was recommended by the Hotel Manager. The three of us agree that Stumpy's was the best New York style pizza we have eaten. During our week stay we ate Stumpy's 3 times to include the last night of our stay when we moved to a hotel in Tempe! This pizzaria his highly recommended for anyone looking for excellent New York style pizza.

I've lived near Stumpy's for twenty years and went in for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I've been by a million times but never noticed the place. Fortunately my daughter heard about it and we stopped in. The pizza is the best I have had in Phoenix. My daughter loves the sandwiches and my wife is hooked on the chef salad. We have been in two more times and will make it a weekly habit. My only regret is that I didn't clue in to this great little place a long time ago.

I'll second the recommendation for Stumpy's. It's in one of the last strip shopping centers along northern heading east, so it is fairly easy to miss. Nothing exotic about this place, but it has your pizzas, subs, and pastas down to an art. Lunch specials are reasonably priced and are a mix of salads, sandwiches, and large slices of pizza. You can order and have your food in 5-10 minutes, so it's a top spot for me to grab a bite during a rushed lunch. The only downside is that seating is limited and it's hard to find a seat at weekday lunches.

This place is a hole in the wall, dive pizza joint that you will probably be tempted to drive right by. Don't! The prices are great and the food is to die for. They have a large variety of sandwhichs and other items in addition to pizza. I had a French Dip that came on bread so soft and hot that it practically melts in your mouth. My husband had a Club Sandwich that was equally good. I was full after my first half of sandwhich and I ate the entire other half becuase I couldn't put it down. Don't miss this place!
