SJN - Southwest Job Network

Profile of SJN - Southwest Job Network, a Nonprofit Organization in Phoenix

By , About.com Guide

SJN - Southwest Job Network is a nonprofit organization doing business in the Greater Phoenix and surrounding area. I posed ten questions to a representative of SJN - Southwest Job Network in an effort to familiarize Phoenix area residents with the organization. Here are the responses I received.

What is the name of the organization?

SJN – Southwest Job Network is an all-volunteer program made possible through the passionate service of our members and community supporters. Our Mission is to provide job transition training, personal connections, access to resources and moral support for job seekers through a Valley-wide network of passionate volunteers.

How long has the organization been operating in the Phoenix area?

Since February 2006

Does the organization serve a particular geographic area?

We began by serving the Scottsdale and North East Phoenix areas; however due to growing demand of job seekers needs for training and networking we have expanded to the Southeast and West Valley. During the summer months of 2009 our new locations began offering the enhanced Curriculum enabling job seekers to participate at their convenience and interest.

Who is most likely to benefit from services provided by the organization?

Job seekers, volunteers, employers, recruiters.

Job Seekers benefit by learning more about the job search process and by getting support in their career transition process, networking opportunities and introductions to people and companies they would not otherwise be able to connect to easily.

Recruiters and employers get access to a group of people who are highly qualified, well trained, and ready to work. The variety of knowledge, skills and abilities represented by members of the group results in many members quickly becoming "alumni."

Volunteers are provided with much opportunity to help those who are struggling with the career transition process and to see the positive results of their work as job seekers improve their skills, connect with employers and get back into the work force much more rapidly and efficiently than in years past.

Are there requirements or prerequisites for people to access your services?

We welcome all Phoenix area Job seekers, volunteers, employers, recruiters, and others who find our activities and efforts worthwhile and useful. We provide education in the job search process and all attendees have the opportunity to meet and work with people who offer support and guidance during employment transition. The SJN Curriculum for the Job Search Process has been designed to provide the training and practice that job-seekers need to be successful. A series of four sessions will be offered during four consecutive SJN bi-monthly networking meetings.

Three things about SJN - Scottsdale Job Network that people might not know.

  1. SJN is a non-profit offering meetings at three (3) locations: North Phoenix, Southeast Valley and West Valley.
  2. We are not a job placement forum, and we do not match candidates to openings nor do we send resumes to employers or recruiters. There is no guarantee of employment either directly through this group or as a result of association with SJN.
  3. Offer SJN Members Online Services through:

The value of SJN lies in the skills, business networks and personal passions of our members. Membership is open to everyone willing to share their skills and anyone interested in local networking or in need of employment transition support.
